Quick Answer

The dash exploit is a demo trick: lunge with the rusty sword, then jump the moment the blade pulls back to fling yourself forward. In the full game the rusty sword version was reported fixed, and the developer hinted the bug now lives on another sword hidden early on. For normal long jumps, use Wind Dash or the Pandora Blade's launch attack.

How did the demo dash exploit work?

You lunged with the rusty sword, then jumped as the blade started to retract, so the jump kept the lunge's speed.

Lunge with the rusty sword

Do the rusty sword's forward thrust.

Jump as the blade pulls back

Jump the instant the sword starts retracting. The window is about two frames; one of them gives a longer, faster launch.

Bind jump to the scroll wheel

Put jump on scroll wheel down to hit the timing more easily. Once you have it, you can chain launches. Uneven ground changes how far you go.

Does it still work in the full game?

There are two reports, and they point in different directions:

ReportWhat it says
Player report, April 4The rusty sword bug was fixed for the full game
Developer reply, April 13The bug was moved on purpose to another sword hidden early in the game

The hidden sword has not been named yet. This page adds it once it is confirmed.

What should you use instead?

The Pandora Blade's launch attack carrying you over a ledge.
